Victoria Azarenka v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
21-time WTA title winner Azarenka and 24-year-old Teichmann have never played each other in a competitive encounter before this.

Pitted to take on the 95th-ranked Panna Udvardy in her opener, Azarenka had no problems in making it through to the second with the match lasting just over an hour.
Azarenka blasted three aces and 13 winners in her 6-3, 6-1 victory over Udvardy, and was aided in no small way by her opponent’s 29 unforced errors in the encounter.
She did lose her serve on one occasion, dropping it in the first ever game of the second set but then raced away to six successive game wins to win the encounter.
Having begun the season with a quarterfinal appearance at Adelaide, Azarenka would look to do as well here in Melbourne too.
Wins over Paula Badosa and Priscila Hon in that tournament would have given her some confidence and while a three-set loss to Iga Swiatek would have hurt, it also meant she showed the kind of fight one would have expected from the former world number one. Can Azarenka now show similar prowess against a player ranked close to her own ranking?

Teichmann Shakes off Adelaide Loss
Having gone into the season opener at Adelaide last week against Lauren Davis as 1/2 favourite to clinch the encounter, Teichmann had fallen to a three-set loss after winning the opening set.
She was equally a favourite against Petra Martic in her first round match here in Melbourne but this time around there were no upset results.
Teichmann required an hour and 15 minutes on court to complete a 6-3, 6-3 rout of the 57th-ranked Martic, as she broke her Croatian opponent four times in the entire encounter. Interestingly, Teichmann got four opportunities to break her and converted every single one of them.
21 winners for Teichmann helped but as did the 30 unforced errors off the racquet of her opponent as the Swiss player sealed her second round berth with ease – her first ever at Australian Open. Azarenka will be a different kettle of fish though.
