Matteo Berrettini v Stefan Kozlov Head to Head

Expectedly they never played against each other mostly because Kozlov did not have many opportunities to show his skills against some of the best.

Berrettini’s Quest of a First Grand Slam

Berrettini is a player capable of winning a Grand Slam according to some. You won’t find many pundits who would not agree with that statement yet the Italian is yet to unlock that final level of his game that will take him there

He played one final (Wimbledon 2021) but a lack of experience in matches like that cost him in key moments of that match. With that added experience perhaps it’s time for it to happen in 2022.

The Australian Open certainly provides a solid ground for trying as the courts are really fast and that suits Matteo’s game really well. A powerful first serve and a killer forehand could carry him far especially if the consistency is there.

He did not play too much this year and showed some rust against Brandon Nakashima in the previous round as well.

Kozlov’s Journey Back To Tennis

Almost 5 years ago, at the age of 18, Kozlov nearly entered the top 100. He was ranked 115th with a bright future ahead. It did not quite go as planned but things got somewhat back to plan in 2021. The American posted a 41-12 record on all surfaces with the majority of those wins coming on hard.

Kozlov plays an interesting style that combines a lot different elements of tennis. At times he can play very far from the line in a defensive stance while also capable of going on the counter-attack at any time. Such a style of play often times catches his opponents off guard.

There is plenty of talent in Kozlov to be a consistent top 100 player and he showed some of that in the previous round. Getting a WC entry he easily defeated experienced veteran Jiri Vesely in straight sets to move on.

Berrettini v Kozlov Prediction and Tip

This is a clear clash of styles. Berrettini does not employ too many tactics in his game focusing mainly on things he does well. It got him to the top 10 so he is clearly doing it at a very high level. For Kozlov, tennis is a more of a cat and mouse game. There is quite a lot of cerebral stuff in his game and Berrettini will have to adapt to that.

The Italian is the far more complete player at this stage but expect the American to win a set, possibly the first one. Berrettini is not yet in peak form and it will take him some time to get there.

That’s a decent shot for Kozlov to do some damage albeit I suspect he won’t have enough to win. Either way, it’s going to be a very fun match that will ultimately see Berrettini win in four sets.

Tip: Berrettini to win AND Both players to win a set: 7/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
