Jessica Pegula v Bernarda Pera Head to Head
Pegula and Pera have not played each competitively on the WTA tour before this.

Pegula Passes Kalinina Test
Jessica Pegula played in the longest women’s match of day 1 at the 2022 Australian Open as she fought back from losing the first set to win 4-6 7-6 7-5 in two hours and 52 minutes of play.
After bagging the first set, Kalinina took her foot off the pedal and she was made to pay for her passive play as Pegula kept firing winners with aplomb. Overall, the American No. 21 seed hit twice as many winners (46 to 24), and her 56 unforced errors highlighted her increasingly risk-tolerant approach.
Pegula won an intense 23-shot rally to set up a match point at the end of the deciding third set. And fittingly finished off Kalinina with a massive ace down the T. Victory over the Ukrainian was also her first of the season after suffering back-to-back defeats at the two warm-up tournaments before the Australian Open.
Pegula memorably reached the last eight during her last visit to Melbourne. It was a career-best result that unearthed her potential. Victories over the likes of Victoria Azarenka (two-time Australian Open champion) and Elina Svitolina were some of the biggest scalps she recorded Down Under.

Pera Stuns Alexandrova
Bernarda Pera pulled off the upset on day 1, as she defeated World No. 40, Ekaterina Alexandrova, 7-5 6-3 in 90 minutes. The Croatian-born American has now reached the second round of the Australian Open for the second straight year.
Pera made the most of Alexandrova’s lackluster display, which was error-strewn for most of it. The Russian could not cross the 60% mark of first-serve points, while her second serve teetered around the 40% mark.
The serve is one of Alexandrova’s biggest weapons. It underpins her whole game. But she gave the World No. 105 opportunities on a tea tray, and Pera gobbled them up.
Pera broke Alexandrova five times from 12 chances. In contrast, the Russian World No. 40 went two from five in breakpoints conversion.
Pegula v Pera Prediction and Tip
While we cannot rule out the potential of an upset given Pegula’s inconsistent start. But I feel she has played herself into form with that win over Kalinina.
Tip: Pegula to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
