Cressy Defeats Isner in Round One

Cressy has had a terrific start to the year, and is a force to be reckoned with, with Isner drawing the short straw of having to play him in the opening round. In the 4-hour 15-minute marathon, Cressy hit 31 aces and won 82% of first serve points.

The American was insanely clinical under pressure, saving all 9/9 break points that Isner created.

The 24-year-old crushed 92 winners past Isner, compared to just 34 unforced errors, displaying what a high quality first round tie this was. Cressy approached the net 128 times, with a success rate of 77% and this was narrowly enough to see him across the finish line 6-4 in the fifth set.

Prior to this, Cressy competed for silverware in Adelaide, losing out 7-6(6) 6-3 to Nadal. On route to the final, he came from qualifying, defeating Sousa and Vavassori without dropping a set.

In the main draw, defeated Hijikata, Opelka, Munar, and Dimitrov in the main draw, dropping just one set along the way.

During the contest, Machac was able to hit 33 winners past his Argentine opponent, and successfully won 22/29 points at the net. The Czech was able to win 47% of return points to place himself in the second round.

The 21-year-old has yet to lose a match this year, and prior to the Australian Open successfully won the Traralgon challenger. Along the way, Machac saw off Mayot, Santillan, Kukushkin, and De Jong, before lifting the trophy by winning 7-6(2) 6-3 against Fratangelo.

Machac will be looking to avenge the loss he suffered to Cressy in November and make the third round to set up a tie with either Schwartzman or O’Connell.

Cressy v Machac Prediction and Tip
