Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Samantha Stosur Head to Head
At the moment, it is 5-4 to Stosur although, the Australian’s last two wins over Pavlyuchenkova came on clay courts of Madrid and Paris in 2018. As for their most recent meeting on hard courts, the Russian won that match in the 2017 WTA Sydney.

Stosur Looking to End on a High
37-year-old Samantha Stosur has announced her retirement from singles tennis after the Australian Open. She will also retire from the doubles scene at the end of the season.
A two-time Grand Slam finalist, Stosur has enjoyed a rich career with 25 singles finals, going the distance in nine of those. She has always been more of a doubles specialist, having won 28 champions silverware and 15 runner-up trophies. Last year, she won the US Open and Cincinnati Open doubles with Shuai Zhang.
So far this season, the current World No. 487 has featured in just one tournament – Melbourne 2 and she lost to Lin Zhu in the opener.
Here in the Slam, Stosur (starting as a wildcard) did well to avoid a similar fate. Displaying her fighting spirit, she defeated Robin Anderson 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 to set up the clash with Pavlyuchenkova.

Pavlyuchenkova Starts Strong
Playing in her very first match of the new season, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Hungary’s Anna Bondar in the Melbourne Grand Slam opener with 6-2, 6-1. The Russian needed just one hour, winning 73% of the points on the first service and committing just 15 unforced errors.
That game was a good primer for her game against Stosur, especially given that she hasn’t played a whole lot of tennis in 2022.
But last year, the number 10 seed was fairly impressive as she ended the season as World No. 11 – her career-best ranking. Pavlyuchenkova was a runner-up in the French Open and a semifinalist in Madrid; she also won the Olympic Gold with Andrey Rublev in mixed doubles.
Now, the 30-year-old may not have that rich of a pedigree as Stosur, but she is in a far better form overall and should fancy her chances of making it further.
Pavlyuchenkova v Stosur Prediction and Tip
Pavlyuchenkova will start as the heavy, odds-on favourite but Stosur can cause all sorts of upsets as a part of her farewell tour. Her motivation is certainly high – combined with her experience and skills, she can give the Russian a solid run for her money.
Tip: Over 18.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
