De Minaur Motors Along

Alex de Minaur fired in his 11th ace of the match and calmly moved into the third round of his home slam for the third time in his career.

The World No. 42 will now be hoping to make his fourth round debut in Melbourne with a win on Friday. The Aussie has looked in sublime touch since dropping the first set against Lorenzo Musetti in the first round on Tuesday.

De Minaur overcame the first-set deficit against the Italian to win the first-round match 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, 6-3. On Thursday, he looked in even better touch as he handed Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 drubbing.

The 32nd seed saved all three of the break points that he faced against the Pole and converted four of six to win the match in an hour and 39 minutes.

A 202o U.S. Open quarterfinalist, De Mianuar collected his fourth win of the season on Thursday. He had a 2-1 record at the ATP Cup.

Andujar Knocks Out Molcan

Spain’s Pablo Andujar reached the third round of the Australian Open for the first time in his 11th main draw appearance after he dumped out Slovakia’s Alex Molcan in a four-set second-round contest on Thursday.

The 35-year-old Spaniard, who has a far better record on clay than on hard courts, defeated a resilient Molcan 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), 0-6, 6-1. Andujar saved a staggering 14 of 18 break points in the match and converted 4 of 8 to win the tough contest in three hours and 10 minutes.

This win was much tougher for the World No. 83 than his first round win over Bosnian lucky loser Damir Džumhur. Andujar wasn’t broken in that match as he rolled past his opponent with a 6-1, 7-5, 6-1 victory.

Andujar has made it to the fourth round of a grand slam just once, reaching the last 16 of the U.S. Open in 2019.
