Christopher O’Connell v Maxime Cressy Head to Head
The pair have never played each before. This will be the first match between the 27-year-old Australian, and the American, who is three years younger.

Local Wildcard O’Connell Delights Fans with Big Upset
O’Connell who was the recipient of a wildcard, began his latest campaign in Melbourne by reaching the second round for the second successive year, with a good win over Hugo Gaston of France, a man ranked 108 places above him in the world.
The Australian won the first set on a tie-break and then raced through the second without dropping a game. Gaston rallied to take the third, but two breaks of serve in the fourth enabled O’Connell to close the match out easily.
If that were a surprise result, though, it dims in comparison with what he achieved on Thursday, as he dumped Diego Schwartzman of Argentina, the number 13 seed, out of the competition without dropping a set.
Schwartzman had his chances, particularly in the first set where a break up he held three set points.
He then had the chance to break the O’Connell serve for a second time twice, was unable to take either of them, and lost the subsequent tie-break.
One break was enough for O’Connell to extend his lead in a second set dominated by serve.
More break points were squandered by the Argentine at the start of the third set, and he soon found himself a break down. He was briefly on level terms when he got the break back, but then immediately dropped his serve once more and, cheered on by the Melbourne crowd, O’Connell closed out the match.

Cressy Thriving in Australia
Cressy has been thriving almost from the moment that he touched down in Australia.
In the warm-up event, the Melbourne Summer Set, he came all the way through qualifying to reach his first senior ATP final before losing to Rafael Nadav.
And then the following week he reached the quarter-finals in Sydney.
That run shows no sign of slowing down as he has now reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
He began by surviving a first round epic against compatriot John Isner, the number 22 seed, that last well over four hours.
Cressy began well, taking the first set on a tie-break and then the second, before Isner hit back to level, edging the next two sets on tie-breaks.
One solitary break of serve for Cressy in the fifth set ultimately decided the match.
His second round opponent, Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic, is less well-known, having come through the qualifying competition, and initially Cressy was able to dominate him, taking the first set for the loss of just one game.
The second also went to the American, courtesy of the only break, and he looked to be cruising into the third round.
Machac, though, had not read the script, and he fought back to claim the third set, breaking the Cressy serve twice.
Cressy had a chance to serve for the match in the fourth set, only to be broken again, meaning that a tie-break was required. However, this time, when he was given the opportunity to win the match, he duly took it.
O’Connell v Cressy Prediction and Tip
Neither man has been in the third round of a Grand Slam before, so this will a novel experience for both of them. O’Connell can once more expect enthusiastic backing from the stands, but Cressy has developed a liking for playing in Australia, and will start the favourite.
