Zverev Yet to Drop a Set at AO 2022

Zverev has breezed his way into the fourth round without dropping a set, successfully seeing off Altmaier and Millman in the opening two rounds. His most recent tie against Albot, saw Zverev come through 6-3 6-4 6-4 in under 2 hours.

During this encounter, Zverev bombed down 16 aces and maintained an impressive 78% first serve percentage, winning 83% of points behind this delivery. The German fended off all 5 break points his opponent created.

The third seed crushed down 44 winners compared to 30 unforced errors and was also very successful at the net, winning 17/21 points when approaching the forecourt. Winning 55% of the points throughout the contest, Zverev sailed into round-of-16.

Prior to this, Zverev represented Germany at the ATP cup, winning two straight set matches over Norrie and Fritz, however, the Germany v Canada tie saw Zverev lose out to Auger-Aliassime 6-4 4-6 6-3.

Shapovalov Coming off ATP Cup Success

Shapovalov has dropped a set in every round so far, winning three 4-set battles to reach the fourth round. In his opening 2 rounds, the Canadian got the better of Djere and Kwon. Most recently, Shapovalov defeated big server Opelka 7-6(4) 4-6 6-3 6-4 to set up the tie with Zverev.

Throughout the match, the 22-year-old hit 10 aces, and won 83% of points behind his first serve. Shapovalov hit 39 winners compared to 33 unforced errors and won 73% of points when approaching the net. Breaking the Opelka serve 3 times was enough to see the Canadian into the fourth round.

At the 2022 ATP cup, Shapovalov aided Canada to victory. The Canadian defeated Safiullin 6-4 5-7 6-4 and Carreno-Busta 6-4 6-3 in the play-offs to bring home the silverware for Team Canada.

The 14th seed has defeated Zverev before and his opponents form can sometimes be shaky at Grand Slams, so Shapovalov will know he has a chance to reach the quarter finals to set up a potential tie with Nadal.

Zverev v Shapovalov Prediction and Tips

This will be a high-quality fourth round tie with lots of heavy ball striking. However, Zverev is the favourite to go through to the quarter finals.
