Barbora Krejcikova v Madison Keys Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Krejcikova Posts her Best AO Results

In the last seven appearances of Barbora Krejcikova at the Australian Open, she has been beaten in the qualifiers five times while lost in the main draw second round the remaining two times. This year, she has turned it all around with a quarterfinal run.

The Czech has picked up right where she left off; she was a quarterfinalist in the 2021 US Open too and will hope to go further this time around.

Krejcikova’s heroics in the tournament include straight-set wins over Andrea Petkovic and Xiyu Wang and a three-set affair with Jelena Ostapenko. In the fourth round, she knocked out the veteran Belarusian Victoria Azarenka with 6-2, 6-2. In all of these matches, the World No. 4 has kept her error count on the low side, focussing on her service game and shot placement.

The 26-year-old also had a good build-up for the Slam, having reached the final in the Sydney Tennis Classic (ultimately losing to Paula Badosa). Nonetheless, the momentum from there has translated well for Krejcikova.

Last season was a career-defining one for the Czech. She ended the year as World No. 5 after starting it outside the top 60. Krejcikova won the Strasbourg Open, French Open, and Prague Open, and was a runner-up in WTA Dubai.

Keys Back in Business

When compared to Krejcikova, Madison Keys has a far superior pedigree on the WTA Tour.

The American has 11 singles finals to her name – 10 of which are in the Premier and above category. She is also fairly consistent across the board in Grand Slams; Keys has reached the quarterfinals in all four majors. In the Australian Open alone, she has made it to the third round at the very least in her last five appearances.

Of course, her form took a sharp hit last season but the 26-year-old seems to be bouncing back. Currently ranked World No. 51, Keys enjoyed a good start to the year by winning the title in Adelaide 2 – her first trophy in over two years.

In the Slam so far, she has defeated a handful of big names – notably the 11th seed Sofia Kenin in the opener and the 8th seed Paula Badosa in the fourth round. Both these wins came in straight sets. Keys’ other victims include Jaqueline Cristian and Qiang Wang. It is worth noting that against Wang, Keys fumbled a bit with 50 unforced errors, but made up for it with just as many winners.

Krejcikova v Keys Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova is in for a tough match. Keys has found her form in time and looking at the list of players that the Czech has fallen to recently, the American is well-versed and experienced enough to add her name to the list.

Plus, Keys has an exceptionally strong service and a powerful baseline game, much akin to Krejcikova. This is going to be an evenly-matched affair, one where Keys has a good chance of coming out as the winner.
