Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina v Adrian Mannarino Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 22-year old Spaniard, and his French opponent, who is eleven years older.

Davidovich-Fokina Prefers a Clay Court

Like many Spanish players, Davidovich-Fokina is more at home on clay. That was the surface on which he won his one senior title, the doubles at the Chile Open in 2020, partnered by compatriot Roberto Carballes-Baena.

And one of his two success, and his three other finals on the Challenger tour, were also in clay court events.

At the Australian Open, the Spaniard, of Russian heritage, did win his first round match in Melbourne, beating the Australian wildcard, Alex Bolt, in straight sets.

But his run was ended by Felix Augur-Aliassime of Canada, the world number nine, losing in four sets in what was a closely fought match.

Mannarino Made Fourth Round in Melbourne

Mannarino’s only senior tour title remains the Rosmalen Championships which he won on grass back in 2019, although he has been in nine other finals, finishing on the losing side each time.

The last of those was in 2020 and, since the pandemic, he has been struggling for form and 2021 saw his world ranking fall.

However, if his performances at the Australian Open are anything to go by, 2022 is already shaping up to be a better year.

In the first round he came from behind to beat the local man James Duckworth in five sets, and then caused an upset by knocking out the Pole Hubert Hurkasz,  the world number 11, in straight sets.

Then he beat the Russian Aslan Karatesev, a man who has already enjoyed tournament success in 2022, to emulate his previous best in a Grand Slam by reaching the fourth round.

He lost to Rafael Nadal then, but not before taking the Spaniard all the way in a marathon tie-break to decide the first set of their match.

Davidovich-Fokina v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

Although Davidovich-Fokina is the higher ranked of the pair, the surface, and the fact that Mannarino will be playing in front of a home crowd, would appear to favour him. He will also be keen to build on the momentum he built-up in Melbourne.

Tip: Mannarino to win: 7/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
