Filip Krajinovic v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Head to Head
Krajinovic won their only meeting at the Davis Cup in 2019.

Krajinovic Holds Off Popyrin
World No. 36 Filip Krajinovic got off to a solid start on Tuesday as he crafted a hard fought win against Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in the first round.
Krajinovic, who is making his third appearance in Montpellier, was a quarterfinalist in 2019 and a semifinalist in 2020. The fifth seed broke early in the first set, but couldn’t serve out the set at 5-4, with the Aussie getting the break back. The Serb broke back immediately and then held serve the next game to take a one-set-to-love lead.
The second set was equally competitive with Popyrin breaking first and going up 1-3, but for the second time in the match the Australian was broken immediately after he got a break.
Both held serve for the rest of the set, before Krajinovic dominated the tiebreak to win 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in an hour and 42 minutes.
The 29-year-old, who began the season with a 2-1 record at the ATP Cup, was beaten in the first round of the Australian Open by Diego Schwartzman.

Tsonga Ends Long Drought
Eighteen-time ATP champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga scored his first tour-level win since March 2021 as he ousted Polish qualifier Kacper Zuk 6-4, 6-4 in the first round on Tuesday.
The win was also just the second win on the tour for the Frenchman since 2019. He had played just two and lost both in 2020 and went 1-8 in 2021. His last win was against Feliciano Lopez in the first round in Marseille in March last year. Since then he lost seven tour-level matches in a row before ending his season after Wimbledon due to a leg injury.
The 36-year-old, however, made a winning return Tuesday in what was his first tour level match of the season.
Tsonga served seven aces and won 93% first serve points on his way to a 6-4, 6-4 win. Broken once in the first set, Tsonga converted three of the 11 break points that he held in the match to close out the contest in an hour and 26 minutes.
Ranked 259th in the world, Tsonga is making his sixth appearance in Montpellier. He won the crown in 2019 after defeating compatriot Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the final. In his other previous appearances, the 2008 Australian Open finalist reached the semifinals in 2010, 2017 and 2018 but was knocked out of the first round by Sebastian Korda in 2021.
Krajinovic v Tsonga Prediction and Tip
Tsonga has not won two matches in a row since his run to the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters in 2019 and so the odds will be stacked against him. But having made a solid start he will put up a good fight. Expect Krajinovic to edge past the Frenchman and reach a third quarterfinal in Montpellier.
