Aslan Karatsev v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head
The head-to-head between Karatsev and Griekspoor is tied at 1-1. Both matches took place on the ATP Challenger Tour. The Dutchman won their first meeting in Tampere in 2019, before Karatsev avenged the loss a year later in Prague.

Karatsev Looks To Bounce Back From Pune Disappointment
Aslan Karatsev was the top seed at the Maharashtra Open in Pune this past week, but was overwhelmed with the sheer power of Sweden’s Elias Ymer, eventually losing the match in straight sets.
It was the most surprising result of the week and the Russian will need to address that mishap pretty fast in Rotterdam. And the field at the ATP 500 event in the Netherlands is not any less rocky.
Karatsev who is 6-2 for the season arrives in Rotterdam with a title in his trophy cabinet for 2022 (defeated Andy Murray in the Sydney final). But his failure to emulate last year’s exploits at the Australian Open has raised questions about whether he might be a one-trick pony.
It is still early days though to make such staggering assumptions. The Russian is one of the cleanest ball strikers in the men’s game. And given how Adrian Mannarino (the man who defeated him in Australia) competed so bravely against Rafael Nadal clearly illustrates the Frenchman was playing some of the best tennis of his life at the year’s first Grand Slam.
For now, Karatsev will be keen to avoid a third straight defeat when he makes his tournament debut in Rotterdam.

Griekspoor Could Impress On Home Soil
Tallon Griekspoor is slowly making the transition from the grind of the Challenger Tour to the main tour. Griekspoor was easily the MVP of the ATP Challengers last year, winning a record eight titles in one calendar year and cracking the world’s Top 100 for the first time in his career.
At 25, and currently sitting at a career-high World No. 62, Griekspoor might not need to go down the staircase. Instead, his ranking is more than adequate to qualify him in most tour-level tournaments.
After a respectable quarterfinal showing in his first tournament of the year in Melbourne Summer Set (withdrew from his scheduled quarterfinal due to injury). He would then push World No. 17, Pablo Carreno Busta, to five sets at the Australian Open.
His last tournament participation was in Montpellier where he lost narrowly to Alexander Bublik in two tiebreak sets.
The Dutchman has deservedly earned a wild card entry into the main draw at his home tournament. Could he pull off the upset on day one?
Karatsev v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip
This is such a tough opener for Karatsev, against a local favorite who will be keen to impress at his home tournament. Karatsev’s work ethic cannot be underestimated, but after last week’s shambolic defeat in Pune, a third straight defeat is beckoning.
