Musetti Fell In Pune Quarterfinals

Another wasteful performance in Pune this past week meant that Lorenzo Musetti is yet to score back-to-back wins since last year’s French Open. Now there is serious danger his stock could fall off a cliff if his form does not improve considerably in the next few weeks.

Musetti lost to Kamil Majchrzak 2-6 7-6 4-6 in over two hours and was left to rue on his missed chances most importantly the two break points to get back into the match again in the final game of the third set.

Later, the 19-year-old Italian proclaimed the surface at the Maharashtra Open was not suited to his style of play. The court was quick with balls flying, instead of moving slowly. He will get his wish in Rotterdam though, where the indoor hardcourts at the ATP 500 event are known for their slow court conditions.

Musetti is now 1-3 at the start of 2022 and is yet to free himself from a transitional season and move on to greater projects –  something fellow countryman Jannik Sinner has done so meticulously in the past 18 months.

Ymer Made Montpellier Semis

Mikael Ymer made the semifinals of the Montpellier Open last week, scoring mammoth wins over former champions at the event in Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet. It was a fantastic week for the Ymer household, with older brother Elias also making an imprint in Pune by reaching the last four stage.

However, the younger Ymer was no match for the top seed Alexander Zverev who swept past the 23-year-old for the loss of only four games in the semis.

Still, it was a fabulous week for Ymer whose progress since he burst onto the scene a few years ago is a breath of fresh air on the main tour. His development, while rather slow, will likely see him become a top 50 player before the end of the year.

As a result of his fine performances in southern France, Ymer gets a special exemption (exempted to play qualies) to the ATP Rotterdam Open this week where he is looking to improve on his 5-3 record for the season.

Musetti v Ymer Prediction and Tip

The hard draws continue to follow Mikael Ymer from one continent to another. But the young Swede continues to surpass expectations. Musetti, for all of his talent, is in the midst of a career slump right now and he is likely to come second best here.

Tip: Ymer to win: 4/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
