Jaqueline Cristian v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Cristian Defeats Pera
Jaqueline Cristian was originally slated to play Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the WTA St. Petersburg opener. However, the Russian withdrew and was replaced by the lucky loser Bernarda Pera.
The Romanian overcame her American adversary, beating Pera in straight sets with 7-6(3), 6-4, in a little under two hours. It wasn’t the most clinical of the wins but she got the job done.
So far this season, the 23-year-old has lost to big names like Barbora Krejcikova and Madison Keys in the Australian tournaments. Both those defeats came in the early rounds and had it not been for them, one could wonder how far Cristian would have gone.
Towards the end of last season, the current World No. 58 made some remarkable strides on the tour. She reached the semifinal in Karlsruhe Challenger and Astana Open, a quarterfinal in Transylvania Open, and the final in the Linz Open. These results propelled her into the top 100 and now, she had moved up even further.
Needless to say, Cristian is a promising player with great potential. Her path to the semifinal here is pretty much clear with only real resistance coming from Jelena Ostapenko in the quarters.

Sasnovich Survives Linette
Aliaksandra Sasnovich found herself in a three-set battle against Magda Linette in the opener. The match went on for a little under two and a half hours and saw the Belarusian clinch the win with 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
The 27-year-old will now hope to deliver a result similar to that in the Melbourne Set 2. Starting as a qualifier, she made it all the way to the final before losing to Amanda Anisimova. That was her third singles final on the tour, and her first one since the 2018 Brisbane International.
In the next tournament, however, Sasnovich was stopped in her tracks in the opening round of the Aus Open by Qinwen Zheng.
Looking at her overall form, the #71 ranked player has potential but like most, lacks consistency. Last season, she made it to the fourth round in the Indian Wells Open (beating Emma Raducanu and Simona Halep en route), and the third round in Cleveland and Wimbledon. In every other event, she lost in the early rounds.
Cristian v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip
Sasnovich is slightly more experienced but Cristian has the form and momentum. The Romanian, as a result, will start as the favourite but it may not be an easy victory for her.
