Andy Murray v Felix Augue-Aliassime Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, at the US Open in 2020, the Canadian winning easily in straight sets.

Murray Beats Montpellier Winner

Murray, who announced before the tournament that he intends to miss the whole of the clay court season to concentrate on Wimbledon, was given a wildcard in Rotterdam.

His first round opponent was Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, the man who got his own season off to a strong start by winning in Montpellier last week.

Both men had  break points in the first set, but it was the Scot who drew first blood with the opening break of the match. He had the chance to serve for the set, but let out a roar of frustration as Bublik converted the third of three break points to level the match.

It went to a tie-break where Murray saw two set points go begging until he made the third count.

Bublik saved two break points in the opening game of the second set, but six games later he was broken.  Murray served out from there.

It showed once again that Murray can beat anybody on his day still. The problem he has is stringing results together with the strain that the various injuries he has suffered puts on his body.

Augur-Aliassime Made to Work by Qualifier

Having appeared in eight ATP finals since 2019 and lost all of them, Augur-Aliassime will be hoping to improve on that record this year; he has already tasted success with Canada, playing in the ATP Cup in Australia.

He was handed an easy looking first round draw against the qualifier Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, but made hard work initially of beating the world number 126.

It was Gerasimov, who, having saved a break point, established an early advantage when the Canadian dropped his serve. And, serving to stay in the set, Augur-Aliassime was broken once more.

The number three set, though, regrouped, and gradually began to get on top. He broke Gerasimov once and then again, and it was all square once more heading into the third set.

An early break of serve in the third set indicated that Augur-Aliassime was now in the driving seat, although the man from Belarus was briefly level, before falling behind once more.

Another break of serve meant the Canadian could finally relax and he served out.

Murray v Augur-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

Murray has proved that he can beat anybody on his day, but fitness issues make it hard for him to put together back-to-back performances. Augur-Aliassime won their last encounter easily and he will be hoping for a repeat in Rotterdam.
