Tereza Martincova v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the WTA Tour, Martincova was the winner. The match took place in the 2019 WTA Tashkent, where the Czech prevailed in three sets.

Martincova Gets Lucky

Tereza Martincova was slated to play the number three seed Elena Rybakina but the match got cancelled as the Kazakh withdrew from the tournament, possibly due to her recent thigh issue. As a result, the World No. 42 got a bye into the quarterfinal to post her best results in the St. Petersburg Open history.

Having lost in the early rounds in Melbourne, Adelaide, and the Aus Open, Martincova has now got a chance to make up for it and move up significantly in the rankings.

She has a little bit of momentum on her side, having reached two doubles finals already in 2022. Last season, she was a runner-up in the Prague Open and did well to crack the top 50 – despite starting the year outside the top 120.

While her resume is still a bit thin on top 10 wins, she has seen her fair share of wins against players of Begu’s calibre and will fancy her chances of reaching the semis.

Begu Upsets Kvitova

After defeating Shuai Zhang in the opener, Irina-Camelia Begu moved on to stun the number six seed Petra Kvitova. The Romanian served a single bagel with 6-4, 6-0 – needing just an hour and 10 minutes to win the match. Whether it was Begu’s superior play or Kvitova’s recent form struggles unfolding again, she got herself a well-deserved win.

Her season so far has seen her lose to Amanda Anisimova and Elise Mertens in the quarterfinal and second round respectively in Melbourne 2 and the first major of the year.

Last year, however, Begu reached her first singles final in over 4 years but apart from that, she fell in the early rounds. The World No. 56 also registered wins over the likes of Johanna Konta, Petra Martic, Jil Teichmann, and Jessica Pegula in 2021.

Martincova v Begu Prediction and Tip

This fixture is evenly matched in many ways and can very well swing either side. There is not a whole lot that separates the two players and it should all come down to how they start the match on Friday. Begu has looked more comfortable while Martincova has a slightly better overall form. They will test each other and possibly push to three sets.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
