Andy Murray v Taro Daniel Head to Head

Andy Murray and Daniel Taro played two times before with the score being 1-1. They played a month ago in Melbourne where Daniel inflicted Murray a very upsetting defeat at the Australian Open 6-4 6-4 6-4.

Coaching Uncertainty Troubling Murray

Andy Murary is currently without a fulltime coach after parting ways with his coach lat last year. Since then Murray has trilaed 3 different coaches with none sticking around. In Doha he will once again be with Stan Wawrinka’s coach Daniel Vallverdu as he searching for a permanent solution.

Murray has called the situation less than ideal knowing that he has much to improve on but unsure of how to tackle it with different inputs from many people. It has trouble the Briton’s mind and it reflected in his play. Since reaching the final in Sydney, Murray has went 2-2 losing a couple of matches without even being competitive.

It’s left the Briton frustrated as he explained following another disappointing outing against Felix Auger-Aliassime in Rotterdam. Murray underlined the need to get better and he will search for that in Doha before the season shifts to North America.

Daniel Unleashing His Full Potential

Taro Daniel has been a very strong challenger player for many years yet the Japanese player never found a way to stay in the top 100 once he finds his way inside. The best he ever did was in 2018 when he almost broke inside the top 100 but then the pandemic came and it stopped his ascension.

Now, at age 29, Taro opened the 2022 season in a very strong fashion. An 8-2 record posted down under proves that Daniel has taken it seriously and it’s paid off. The run came on hard courts where he usually does not play his best considering his affinity for clay.

The Japanese player is very close to climbing back inside the top 100 and a solid result in Doha could facilitate that. Can he replicate his Australian Summer form in the Persian Gulf? Time will tell but it won’t be easy with a very inspired Murray waiting in R1.

Murray v Daniel Prediction and Tip

Will it be further frustration for Andy Murray or sweet revenge remains to be seen but the British player will be eager to take the court where Daniel Taro will be waiting on the opposite side. Murray’s defeat to Daniel in Melbourne was choking to many fans especially after his run to the finals in Sydney.

The Japanese player played a very good match overall exploiting Murray exactly where he needed to. He won the match with 6-4 6-4 6-4 and he will fancy doing something similar on Monday. He hasn’t played in a while which could prove troublesome for him but in a best of 3 matches, he will certainly have enough energy to offer strong opposition.

Matchup wise it’s a tough one to call. It will be decided by Murray nad his level because if the Briton plays good tennis he can and should win yet if he performs lacklustre as he did in the past few weeks he might be in trouble. I think Murray will pull through. It will be close but I think he will get it done in 3.
