Petra Kvitova v Camila Giorgi Head to Head
Giorgi holds a 2-1 lead over Kvitova and has beaten the Czech in their last two encounters. They last met in the Montreal Open last season where Kvitova lost in straight sets.

2022 has not been particularly kind to Petra Kvitova. Her tally at the moment stands at 2-4 with her best results coming in the form of second-round appearances in Australia and Russia.
Playing in the St. Petersburg Open last week, the 31-year-old was stunned by Irina-Camelia Begu in the early round. The result followed her first-round exit in the Australian Open at the hands of Sorana Cirstea.
The World No. 23 – who is likely to drop down further once the rankings are updated on Monday – was a consistent part of the top 10 for a good part of the last decade. Last season, however, Kvitova had a rather mundane season with only one title to her name – the Qatar Open.
Of late, however, her form has taken a far worse hit and there appears to be no reprieve to the bleeding. The fact that she is losing to the newly emerging stars on the tour may make it all the more difficult for her to make a comeback.

Giorgi, Capable of Surprises
Camila Giorgi’s recent form and overall pedigree in Dubai (best result: second round in 2015) doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. But the fact that her opponent is in much worse shape than her may give her the necessary motivation.
The Italian also participated in WTA St. Petersburg last week where she was beaten by Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets. Before that, she played in the Melbourne Slam where she lost to the eventual champion Ashleigh Barty in round two.
While Giorgi isn’t the most consistent performer on the WTA Tour, she did have an impressive spell last season when she made it to the quarterfinal in the Olympics, semifinal in Eastbourne and Tenerife, and of course her title run in the WTA 1000 Montreal.
With this kind of backing, Giorgi will eye her chances against Kvitova.

The fact that Petra Kvitova is pegged even odds for this match tells us how bookmakers are evaluating her form.
Giorgi (4/5) is better poised for the upset but we can’t forget the fact that the Czech is a former world number two with three major finals and titles across three decades. At the very least, we may see a solid fight.
