Fernando Verdasco v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head
Verdasco and Lajovic played five times before but all of those matches are several years ago. The last match they played was in 2018 and Verdasco won that match in Hamburg. Overall the Serbian leads 3-2.

Verdasco Finding Form in South America
Fernando Verdasco is many years removed from his prime yet the Spaniard is still playing tennis and occasionally playing very good. Opting to play on clay early in the season, Verdasco took part in the Golden Swing and so far it’s been very solid. A quarterfinal in Buenos Aires with two solid wins is positive and something to build on.
The veteran is probably done with winning events yet the love for tennis keeps Verdasco from retiring as he noted recently that he still enjoys it. He looked like that in Buenos Aires celebrating wins as if he was just a teenager making his way in the tennis world.
Another chance at a solid run comes in Rio de Janeiro with the Spaniard drawing an out of form Lajovic who has struggled a lot recently. If Verdasco plays a solid match he can win this and build more confidence for the upcoming events.

Lajovic Continues to Struggle
Dusan Lajovic is still ranked inside the top 50 officially but his level recently has been far worse than that. He is currently 3-6 on the year after a slow start in Australia. Never one to be fond of hard courts, Lajovic usually does best on clay however his performances so far have been quite lacklustre on the surface as well.
His lone win on the surface came against an uninspired Paire who threw away that match after failing to convert several match points. Lajovic’s struggles have been ongoing for a few months now with the Serbian completely lacking any confidence.
Things will change eventually yet it’s hard to back him right now as his level has been so uninspiring. Perhaps Rio will turn it around for the Serbian but it’s not something you would want your life to depend on.
Verdasco v Lajovic Prediction and Tip
This is a very interesting matchup between two players who have played a few times against each other. Generally, Lajovic tends to win this matchup, especially on clay however those matches came at a time when the Serbian was much more confident than he is today.
Verdasco seemed o enjoy his time in Buenos Aires and he looked quite inspired even in matches that went on very long. He seems to be in solid shape and has plenty of self-belief. He prefers to play against defensive players which could work against Lavjoci although the Serbian like to attack on clay himself.
I’m fairly certain this will be a close match that could easily go to three sets. I don’t feel comfortable backing either to win but I’m leaning more towards Verdasco as he has simply shown more enthusiasm lately. On a day where players have a similar level, that passion for the game might just be enough.
Tip: Verdasco to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
