Buenos Aires Semi-Finalist Delbonis

Delbonis reached the last of his ATP finals and recorded his second win on the senior tour nearly six years ago in Morocco, but, after years in the doldrums, his career enjoyed something of a renaissance last year.

He reached his first Masters 1000 quarter-final in Rome, made the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in Paris, and re-entered the top 50.

The Argentine enjoyed mixed fortunes in Australia. Playing for his country in the ATP Cup, he won two out of his three matches, but then was beaten in the first round of the two singles’ events he entered – Sydney and the Australian Open.

He then suffered the disappointment of another first round defeat in Cordoba, but did much better in Buenos Aires, ending the temporary comeback of Juan Martin del Potro and defeating Fabio Fognini, before losing to Casper Ruud in the semi-finals.

Galan Rivero Reached Last Eight in Cordoba

Last year, Galan Riveros put himself on the map by reaching the third round of the Miami Open, reaching a career high ranking shortly afterwards.

Clay, though’ is his preferred surface, and that is where he has enjoyed all his success on the Challenger tour, already tasting victory in Concepcion, Chile in January, his third title at that level.

From there he travelled to Argentina and Cordoba where he came through qualifying to reach his first ATP quarter-final, taking the lead against the top seed, Diego Schwartzman, before eventually losing in three sets.

Again, he had to navigate the qualifying competition in Rio, beating first Tomas Martin Etchevery of Argentina, and then Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida of Brazil, both in straight sets.

Delbonis v Galan Riveros Prediction and Tip

The Argentine will start favourite against the Colombian qualifier, but if Galan Riveros can find the form that took him to the last eight in Cordoba, then Delbonis may not have things all his own way.
