Jack Sock v Daniel Altmaier Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between these two players, with Altmaier winning their previous encounter in the quarter-final of the Knoxville challenger. Altmaier defeated Sock on the American hard courts 3-6 7-5 7-6(2) to lead the H2H 1-0.

The American kicked off his year at the Columbus challenger where he reached the quarter-finals before having to retire against Stricker. Along the way, Sock defeated Eubanks 7-6(7) 6-7(4) 6-4 and Soeda 6-3 6-4 before losing in the last-8.
In Cleveland, Sock won his opening round against Schnur 2-6 6-4 6-3 as the 8th seed, however, any further progress was halted as he retired 6-1 2-1 down to compatriot Mmoh. His first ATP event of the year in Dallas ended in a second-round defeat to Fritz 6-1 6-4, after defeating Otte 6-4 6-4 in the opening round.

Altmaier Eyeing Up Tie with Opelka
Altmaier has already competed in a lot of tournaments in 2022 with his best result coming at the start of February in Pune, where he made the quarter-finals. The German defeated Gunneswaran 7-6(6) 6-2 in the opening round and backed this up with a 3-set 3-6 6-4 6-4 win over Albot. The 5th seed stumbled upon a resurgent Sousa losing 6-2 6-3 to the eventual champion.
Altmaier suffered opening round defeats at the Australian Open, losing to compatriot Zverev 7-6(3) 6-1 7-6(1), and last week in Dallas, falling at the first hurdle against Seppi 4-6 6-3 6-4.
The German knows what it takes to beat his American opponent as he has done it before, however it was a very close battle and this encounter will likely be no different. A win for Altmaier will set up a tie with 2nd seed Opelka in the second round.
Sock v Altmaier Prediction and Tip
This will likely be a close match, especially based upon their previous encounter which went to a third-set tiebreak. Despite being the lower-ranked player, Sock can produce top-10 quality tennis when he is in the zone. Therefore, he is the slight favourite to advance to the next round.
