Karen Khachanov v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

Khachanov beat Ruusuvuori in their only meeting at the Indian Wells Open last year. The Russian won the Round of 64 contest in straight sets.

Khachanov Eases Into the Second Round

World No. 27 Karen Khachanov moved into the Round of 16 in Doha with a straight sets win over America’s Mackenzie McDonald in the first round on Monday.

The 25-year-old Russian got 77% of his first serves right and he won 82% of those points while serving eight aces in the match. He also saved all three of the break points that he faced while converting both the break points that he held to win the one-hour-and-26-minute match 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

The win was Khachanov’s second in his third appearance in Doha. On Wednesday, he will be aiming to reach the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open for the first time.

Overall the 2020 Olympics silver medallist improved his 2022 record to 8-4. He began the season by reaching the Adelaide-1 final but couldn’t win a fifth title as he went down to Gael Monfils in straight sets.

The Russian next made a run to the last eight stage in Adelaide-2 and was knocked out in the third round of the Australian Open by Rafael Nadal. Last week, in Rotterdam, Khachanov won his opening round match, but couldn’t go past the Round of 16.

Ruusuvuori Rallies Past Goffin

World No. 71 Emil Ruusuvuori rallied from a set down to edge past David Goffin in the first round of the Qatar Open on Tuesday.

The Finn, who has displayed good form this year, put up another gritty performance as he ousted the World No. 48, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in two hours and 37 minutes.

In what turned out to be an engaging contest, Goffin took the first set in an hour and 10 minutes. The Belgian saved six of seven break points in the set and converted two of eight to draw first blood.

Goffin also got a break in the fifth game of the second set and raced to a 4-2 lead before Ruusuvuori began to forge his way back. The 22-year-old won the next four games in a row to take the set and force the decider.

It was all Ruusuvuori in the third set, who sealed the contest by taking the set in just 30 minutes.

The win improved the Finn to 8-3 in 2022. He reached a maiden ATP final in Pune two weeks ago and was a semifinalist in Melbourne. The only time he faced an early setback this year was at the Australian Open, where he went down fighting to Felix Auger-Aliassime in a five-set opening round contest.

Khachanov v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip

It’s a tricky second round contest for the sixth seed, but he should still edge past the Finn to advance to the quarterfinals.
