Pablo Andujar v Albert Ramos Vinolas Head to Head

This has been a very old rivalry between these two Spaniards with their first ever match having come on the Futures circuit in 2005.

Overall, across the Futures, Challengers and the main ATP circuit, they have played each other 14 times and Andujar leads 10-4. More recently, Ramos-Vinolas has won both their previous two meetings, including one in Cordoba in 2020.

Andujar Through in Tough Battle

Having made it to the third round at Australian Open and the second round at Buenos Aires Open, Andujar looks to have made things count in recent times.

And in winning his opener yet again here in Rio, Andujar has now made it to the round of 16 for the third year in running at this tournament.

In a match lasting two hours and nine minutes, Andujar came through 7-6 (2), 7-5 against Pablo Cuevas to enter round two. While he was broken twice in the match, it was that extra, decisive break in the 11th game of the second set that tipped the scales in his favour.

Andujar then served it out to clinch the second round berth.

Ramos-Vinolas Crushes Argentine

In-form Ramos-Vinolas has already lifted one trophy this season on clay and while he did not have a great time in Argentina last week, the Spaniard kick-started his campaign here on a strong note.

The world number 33 wasted no time in getting past Argentine Juan Londero, winning 6-3, 6-4 with the match lasting an hour and 33 minutes.

Having won the title at Cordoba earlier this month, Ramos-Vinolas repeated his showing from that competition against Londero, breaking him three times in the entire match. And while he was himself broken the one time the Spaniard faced a break-point, Ramos-Vinolas came through to seal his second round berth.

Can he now make it to the quarterfinal at this tournament for the third time in his career?

Andujar v Ramos Vinolas Prediction and Tip
