Jelena Ostapenko is showing an increased level of consistency this year and it is very good to see for fans of this player. Her biggest issue has always been the consistency with the grand slam champion almost unplayable when she has everything working.
In Dubai, she played two very good matches so far. In the first round, she smashed Sofia Kenin rather easily while in the 2nd round she defeated Iga Swiatek. The win against Swiatek was a bit messy but it was also a comeback win for Ostapenko who usually falls apart quickly when things are not going well.
She is thriving in these conditions where the ball flies very quickly due to the low humidity in the desert. She is especially dangerous on return which is why Kvitova will need to pay close attention to her serve.
Kvitova v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip
Petra Kvitova is leading this matchup 4-3 but the last match happened well over two years ago. So far in Dubai, both have played very well. It’s hard to pinpoint who has a higher level but Kvitova is more consistent. Her game looks very solid overall while Ostapenko is prone to the occasional dropoff.
The key will be the serve of Kvitova as it will need to be strong and precise. If Ostapenko is given enough time to set up her baseline game she will be very hard to counter even for Kvitova. Another thing will be consistency. If Kvitova keeps playing this well and applying high pressure on her opponents she will be hard to beat.
