Basilashvili Posts First Win in 2022
After six consecutive losses in 2022, Nikoloz Basilashvili began his title defense in Qatar with a straight sets win over Sweden’s Elias Ymer.
The Georgian, who defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the Doha final to claim the first of his two titles last year, needed two hours and three minutes to post his first win of the season on Wednesday. Basilashvili converted four of 14 break points and saved four of six to win the match 6-4, 7-5.
Ranked No. 22, the 29-year-old had also won the Munich title and reached a maiden ATP 1000 final in Indian Wells last year, but he struggled to get off the blocks this year, going 0-6 from the first five tournaments, including the ATP Cup.
On Wednesday, Basilashvili struck 29 winners but also made 43 unforced errors against the Pune Open semifinalist. He also squandered two match points on Ymer’s serve at 5-4 in the second set, and then wasted four more match points on the Swede’s serve in the 12th game before converting the fifth to seal the contest and advance to the quarterfinals for the third time in Doha.

Fucsovics Battles Past Kwon
World No. 36 Marton Fucsovics reached the quarterfinals in Doha for the third consecutive year as he battled past South Korea’s Soonwoo Kwon for a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 victory on Wednesday.
The Hungarian saved nine of 13 break points and converted six of 15 to edge out the World No. 55 in two hours and 45 minutes.
Fucsovics had a slow start to the season, recording just one win from his first three tournaments in Australia. However, he returned to form in Rotterdam last week, winning two consecutive matches and reaching the quarterfinals.
This week, he is into the last eight again. The 30-year-old began his campaign by ousting the eighth seed Lloyd Harris 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the first round on Tuesday.
Following the win over Kwon, Fucsovics improved to 5-4 for the season and 7-2 in Doha.
Basilashvili v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip
This is going to be a close one. Basilashvili has returned to winning ways but can he win two matches in a row? He is the defending champion and the seeded player, so there will be expectations from him, but he hasn’t been in good form this year and that makes Fucsovics a slight favourite in the contest. The Hungarian also has a better head-to-head record against the Georgian and should win this in three.
Tip: Fucsovics to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
