Spanish Wildcard Taberner
Taberner reached a career high ranking at the end of 2021, having won reached three finals on the Challenger circuit and won all of them. They were all on clay, his favourite surface.
So far this year, he has been unable to build on that.
Like Cerundulo, he appeared in the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time and, like him, he lost in the first round, beaten by the German, Dominik Koepfer, the world number 54, in four sets.
Switching his focus to South America, he reached the second round in Cordoba, but failed to qualify for Buenos Aires and Rio.
A wildcard has spared him the burden of qualifying in Santiago.

Cerundulo’s First Match Since Melbourne
Cerundulo burst on to the scene in Cordoba last February, where he won the title, and, with his elder brother then reaching the final in Buenos Aires, the siblings had announced themselves to the world.
He went on to appear in five Challenger finals, winning three of them, and his performances were good enough to earn him a place in the NextGen ATP Finals in Milan, although he failed to progress beyond the round robin stage.
So far this year he has played very little tennis, although he did make his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open as a direct entry into the main draw, losing in the first round to qualifier Tomas Machac.
He has not played since.
Taberner v Cerundulo Prediction and Tip
Cerundulo has not played since Melbourne but, if he can make the adaptation to clay successfully, he should start favourite.
