Having touched a career-best ranking of 62nd in the world, Nakashima has fallen off the perch a bit for now, having won and lost four matches apiece this season.
This includes a first round exit at Australian Open earlier this year which was followed by back to back second round ousters at Dallas and Delray Beach.
What makes it that much worse for Nakashima is those defeats came at the hands of players who had gone into the encounter as second favourites. In Dallas, for instance, he lost to Jordan Thompson who was 5/2 to win it.
And this was followed by a defeat at the hands of Adrian Mannarino in his next tournament where again Nakashima was 4/6 to win it.
Now, coming up against a player ranked just 20 places behind him, it would be interesting to see how the American goes in this encounter.

Gojowczyk in a Horrid Rut
Coming into this tournament, Gojowczyk had played in five previous competitions this season and lost in the first round at each one of them.
In fact, such has been his fall from form, Gojowczyk had gone into each one of those five matches as a second favourite and it took him a qualifier earlier this weekend to win his first match.
A loss to Yoshihito Nishioka followed soon after but he has now made it to the main draw as a lucky loser.
The former world number 39, however, will need to do a lot more than luck to get through this one against a player who has the pedigree to break into the top 20 at some stage.
