John Isner v Fernando Verdasco Head to Head

They have met twice before, but not once over the last eight years. Verdasco beat Isner at the U.S. Open in 2009, while Isner defeated the Spaniard in Indian Wells in 2014.

Isner Brings 3-5 Record to Acapulco

World No. 23 John Isner had a tough start to the year, but a couple of wins in Dallas that saw him reach the semifinals would have boosted his confidence ahead of the Acapulco Open.

The 36-year-old American is 3-5 this season and will be making his eighth appearance at the Mexican Open. He is 7-7 from the past years, and was a semifinalist in 2019 and 2020. Last year, Isner fell to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Round of 16.

A 16-time champion on the tour, Isner began the season by winning his opener against World No. 238 Brayden Schnur at the ATP Cup, but lost his other two matches in the tournament. He also lost his opening round matches in Adelaide 2 and the Australian Open, before finally ending the four-match losing streak with a tough three-set win over Kevin Anderson in the Round of 16 in Dallas.

The big-serving American also defeated Vasek Pospisil in the quarterfinals in Dallas but was stopped in the semifinals by Reilly Opelka.

Verdasco to Make First Hard Court Appearance in 2022

The 38-year-old Spaniard will be making his first hard court appearance this season. Verdasco has featured in three tour-level tournaments, but all on clay during the South American season.

He was beaten in the first round by Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, but made it to the quarterfinals of the Buenos Aires Open with wins over Hugo Dellien and Thiago Monteiro before being knocked out by Lorenzo Sonego.

Verdasco also won his first round match in Rio last week, defeating Dusan Lajovic but fell to Federico Coria in the Round of 16.

The lefty is a two-time Acapulco finalist, finishing runner-up in 2004 and 2012. But those were during his hey days. Verdasco has struggled over the last two years, but has shown fight on clay this season. Can he put up a good fight on hard courts of Acapulco?
