It wasn’t the smoothest showing dished out by Azarenka but a scrappy win is still a win and that’s what she would have liked to see after having losing her Dubai Open opener last week.
At one point it did like her struggles were real and could lead to another defeat but two hours and 49 minutes later, Azarenka managed to pull off a three-set win over Yulia Putintseva.
Azarenka won 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 to make it to the second round, following her first round defeat in Dubai to Veronika Kudermetova.
Earlier, Azarenka had shown she cannot be taken lightly by reaching the fourth round at Australian Open but a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Barbora Krejcikova put a few question-marks on her showing.

Brengle Scratchy Against Oz
It was expected to be a pretty straightforward performance for Brengle but instead she was kept on court for an hour and 47 minutes by the little known Ipek Oz.
Brengle was 0-3 down in the first set after suffering a break of serve, but came back with one of her own in the fifth game. She lost her serve again in the eight game but Oz was unable to serve it out and Brengle’s experience saw her through.
She then broke her opponent in her very next service game as well before wrapping up the encounter in the second set. She won 7-5, 6-3.
Brengle had earlier failed to qualify for the tournament in Dubai last week.

Azarenka’s form has been a tad iffy but we could be looking at a straight-set win for the former world number one.
