Coco Gauff v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
They played once before and it was last year at Indian Wells with the American winning in three sets 6-3 6-7(2) 6-1.

Coco Gauff was penned as a future grand slam winner a future longtime world number one. While Gauff will certainly achieve those feats many believed they will quite soon considering the way she played as a teenager. However, 2022 so far has been anything but a dominating affair from the American phenom.
A 5-4 record is not impressive and neither is her tennis recently. After playing a solid Adelaide event where she reached the semifinal she bombed in Melbourne losing to Qiang Wang. Her return in the Persian Gulf paired her up against Pegula and the older American easily won. Now in Doha, she once again played an American but bested Rogers.
Perhaps this will be a turning point for Gauff who obviously disappointed so far. The expectations are high and even since another teen phenom in Emma Raducanu won the US Open, Gauff has been more and more under the spotlight. Will she rise up to the challenge, only time will tell.

Return to Glory for Garcia in the Desert?
Caroline Garcia won two WTA 1000 events and while it’s unlikely she will get a 3rd at this even the French player has once been a very dominating player. The days when she was ranked inside the top 10 are several years removed yet her vintage performance against Simona Halep caught many off guard.
It was her best match in many months by far as Halep was left unable to counter her in any way. Simona has not been playing too well lately either but still, it was a vintage Garcia performance which creates the question of whether she could do it again.
Coco Gauff is a tough player to beat with the playstyle she plays but the shaky form of the American doesn’t particularly crate much confidence in her either. Garcia is a streaky player as she demonstrated a few times in her career and she might pull off another upset.
Gauff v Garcia Prediction and Tip
So this matchup is one that is very hard to call. On the surface, Gauff should be the favourite simply because recently she has performed better. They both showed a high level in the first round matchups but neither has been consistent lately to warrant a similar level in the next match.
Garcia plays a more risky style and that creates the higher potential to ‘self-harm’ but Gauff tends to do with her serving as well. She hit only one double fault against Rogers and if she serves like that again she will probably win the match.
It’s a toss-up but I’ll back Gauff in this one simply because she has been more consistent lately. I’m not too convinced of the American but I can’t back Garcia with the yo-yo level she displayed over the past several years.
