Daniil Medvedev comes to Acupulco hoping to put the disappointment of the Aussie Open final loss behind him. The Russian was up two sets to love with three break points for 4-2 in the third against Rafa Nadal, but a mix of brilliance from the Spaniard and a loss of focus from Medvedev saw him capitulate thereafter in a thrilling five-setter.

It was a good start to the year for 2021 US Open champion Medvedev when he took Russia to the semi-finals of the ATP Cup before losing out to Canada the eventual title winners.
A great run at the Aussie open followed barring the let down in the final, and the world number two will be looking to a good run in the Americas with the Mexican Open followed by the Sunshine Masters.

Paire In Search Of Wins & Consistency
The unpredictable and temperamental Frenchman Benoit Paire has got his season off to a typically up and down start.
First round losses at both the Melbourne and Adelaide ATP 250s including walkovers and losing sets to love did not make for the best start to the Down Under swing.
However, Paire came back strong winning a tough opener at the Aussie Open against Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in a tough five setter and then upset Bulgarian former world number three Grigor Dimitrov in the second round. Up against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round, the French veteran put up a good fight but the Greek prevailed in four sets.
Paire headed to the Latin American clay court swing hoping for a good run, but it was disappointing to say the least. Opening round losses at Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Rio were far from what he was looking for and he will now be hoping the hard courts of Acupulco can help reverse his fortunes ahead of the Sunshine Masters.

There are a few things at stake for the Russian this week but do not think that should pressure him too much in the opener. Expect a straight sets win for Medvedev.
