Pedro Martinez v Jaume Munar Head to Head

These two players played against each other four times with Martinez firmly leading 3-1. Two of those were played in 2016 with the other two in 2020. The final one came in 2022 in Marbella with Martinez winning 7-6(4) 6-2.

Martinez Struggling With Form

Pedro Martinez is a very capable tennis player yet his tennis in 2022 has not impressed. He is 5-5 on the year and 3-3 on clay and that’s not something he will be happy about. He is a very capable clay player who has not played too well during this golden slam swing.

Martinez combines several styles of play in tennis and he has quite a bit of variety. That makes him a tricky player to play against on clay but he tends to struggle against players who can outhit him. His latest defeat came against Diego Schwartzman and it highlighted his struggles quite well.

Against Munar, he has had a very positive record so far meaning that they match up rather well. Munar plays very defensively but can be offensive if he needs to be. Martinez will need to make certain he doesn’t get pushed around against Munar because if he does, that will be trouble.

Munar Looking for Strong Santiago Run

Jaume Munar is not playing as bad as his record on the year might have you believe. 6-6 is nothing impressive but his play has been superb at times. He played an excellent first set against Carlos Alcaraz a few days ag winning it 6-2 but he failed to sustain that level moving forward losing the match.

That confidence boost was clearly evident in the first round in Santiago where he easily outplayed Daniel Galan. The Colombian easily beat Munar a few weeks prior in Argentina proving that the Spaniard is improving his form. He is a superb clay player but he simply needs to find a way to remain consistent.

He even played very solid in Australia nearly ousting Aslan Karatsev in Melbourne. Eventually, that great play will get rewarded but it will be tough for him against Martinez who has had his number in the past.

Martinez v Munar Prediction and Tip

Pedro Martinez leads the H2H 3-1 but the Spaniard won their latest matchup two years ago. He should be the favourite in this matchup as well because of that as this matchup tends to favour him. Munar can win this matchup but he will need to be the aggressor which he usually doesn’t like to.

He is capable of it though as he showed against Alcaraz in Rio last week and if gets some of that level back he might pull off the slight upset. He played extremely well against Galan in the first round and it seems his confidence is rising.

I do think this will be a close matchup and I do think we might see three sets but I can’t back Munar yet as he simply has not shown that consistency. Very rarely did he follow up one great match with another and Martinez is too solid overall.

Tip: Martinez to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
