Jabeur Scores a Comeback Win

World No. 10 Ons Jabeur fought back from a set down to knock Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich out of the tournament.

It was the second time when the Tunisian was playing against the Belarusian and just like their first meeting at the U.S. Open three years ago, Sansnovich took the first set. But the eighth seed forged her way back into the contest to win 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 46 minutes.

Jabeur got just 48% first serves correct, but she saved 6 of 12 break points and converted 6 of 12.

The 27-year-old is making her eighth appearance in Doha, with her best coming in 2020, when she was a quarterfinalist.

Following Tuesday’s win, Jabeur improved to 5-2 for the season. She pulled out of her Sydney International quarterfinal against Annet Kontaveit and withdrew from the Australian Open as well due to a back injury. Jabeur came back last week in Dubai and reached the quarterfinals only to be beaten in straight sets by Simona Halep.
