Denis Shapovalov v Taro Daniel Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the second round of the 2019 Australian Open and Shapovalov won that in straight sets.

Shapovalov Overcomes Fighting Fucsovics

It wasn’t the easiest opening round encounter for Shapovalov but he would be glad to have come through it in the manner that he managed to do that.

The Canadian overturned a first set loss against Marton Fucsovics to clinch the match 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to make it to the second round, spending two hours and 28 minutes on court.

He looked to have turned things around in the opening set, coming from 1-4 down to get things back on serve at 4-5 but was then broken off the fourth break-point he faced to drop the set.

An exchange of breaks early in the second set was followed by Shapovalov taking a decisive break in the fifth game, before he wrapped up the equaliser. And while he was unable to get past Fucsovics’ serve for most part in the final set, the world number 14 managed to do so in the 11th game.

He served it out soon after to complete the victory.

Qualifier Daniel Needs No Second Invites

David Goffin’s form has been a subject of conjecture for a while and Daniel took full toll of that he registered a straight-set win over his once-seventh-ranked Belgian opponent.

Daniel needed an hour and 54 minutes on court before he carved out a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory in his opening round encounter, following on from a solid showing at Australian Open earlier this year.

Having reached the third round at the season’s opening Grand Slam, Daniel needed to qualify for this competition and he did that with straight-set wins over Elias Ymer and Alex Molcan.

And for him to now make it three straight-setters in a row should give him much-needed confidence before facing an opponent like Shapovalov. Can Daniel take him out though?

Shapovalov v Daniel Prediction and Tip

While Shapovalov will be a heavy favourite to win this, expect Daniel to put on a fight here and win a set off his opponent.
