Yannick Hanfmann had a solid outing at the start of the season on hard courts yet that form never translated once he shifted to his preferred surface on clay.
Hanfmann lost a couple of matches rather easily but returned to form in Santiago with a comeback win over the ever-solid Federico Coria. Hanfmann lost the opening set and it seemed like he would once again struggle but came back in very strong fashion to win.
The German can be a tricky opponent especially if his first serve is finding tricky angles and that certainly has been the case in the first round. Santiago reward servers on clay better than most events and it’s a component that could prove key for him moving forward.

Seyboth Wild Shifts Focus Back on Tennis
The pandemic has not done the Brazilian any favours as he endure quite a bit of adversity. His play suffered, he did not attend many events, he got injured and he is dealing with a domestic abuse case in his native Brazil. None of that is a tennis-related activity which is what the Brazilian enjoys the most.
In 2022 he finally found time for tennis again and while it has been a struggle at times he did flash some of that potential that got many excited a few years ago. Seyboth Wild is still young but he will need to start focusing on tennis more seriously if he wants to avoid wasting his potential.
It would be a shame because his hyper-aggressive playstyle is super-fun to watch and it certainly has a place in top tennis. Perhaps Santiago will unlock his potential.
Hanfmann v Seyboth Wild Prediction and Tip
Hanfmann is considered the favourite for this match and that’s because his level has been somewhat steady this year. He did not have a good start to the clay season but since then it’s been rather okay while Seyboth Wild has had good performances but also very shaky ones.
His playstyle makes him a very tough player to predict because it can go both brilliant and horribly. Hanfmann plays a more balanced style and his serve is a real weapon in Santiago. If Seyboth Wild can’t control his aggression and his emotion this will be a quick match.
I tend to think the German will find ways to frustrate his opponent and make the job a bit easier so I will back Hanfmann to continue playing well and secure the quarterfinal.
