Sara Errani has had a very good career overall but her recent displays are signalling that that career is finishing. The Italian has dropped in the rankings (154) and it’s not by chance. Errani has been playing lacklustre tennis for a while now with the Italian simply unable to hold her own with her unique playstyle.
It’s a style that gave much trouble to many but in today’s tennis where players hit a lot harder, it’s just something that doesn’t work. On clay, she can still put up a good fight but on hard courts, it’s getting increasingly tougher. It was highlighted last week when she lost to 14-year old prodigy Brenad Fruhvirtova.
Despite that, she was still able to get to the main draw in Monterrey thanks to two wins in the qualifiers. So while she is declining it’s not as bleak as it seemed a week ago. She can still put up a good fight but it’s looking unlikely against Bouzkova.

Bouzkova Catching Fire in Mexico
Marie Bouzkova caught fire in Guadalajara last week reaching the final despite losing it to Stephens in the end. It was a superb week for the Czech player who oozes talent but also a player who never quite got things right. She plays attacking which works well in Mexico but sometimes she can overhit a lot of balls creating trouble.
In Guadalajara, it worked and she will want to keep things going in Monterrey. Whether she can recover physically enough to play superb tennis in Monterrey remains to be seen but her confidence should be very high after the run to the finals.
Errani is certainly an opponent she should and will probably beat but she needs to be careful as the Italian can prolong matches which could be trouble for the fatigued Bouzkova.
Errani v Bouzkova Prediction and Tip
All things equal this is a very one-sided matchup. Bouzkova has all the tools to hurt Errani and the Italian simply has nothing to play for in this matchup. However, all things are not equal. Errani has been in Monterrey a few days and she won two matches at the event getting acclimated with the courts and conditions.
Bouzkova will have a short turnaround after her superb week in Guadalajara but it’s not a long flight between the two Mexican cities. Her confidence should be high but her fatigue will also be pronounced. If she can overcome all of that successfully it will be a short match but she needs to be careful with Errani.
The Italian is very smart and will try everything in this match including prolonging the points in order to tire out Bouzkova. If she avoids that trap and plays up to her level she will win. I tend to think she will pull through.
