Bondar Outlasts Miyazaki
Hungary’s Anna Bondar rallied from a set down to eliminate Japan’s Yuriko Miyazaki in the first round of the Lyon Open.
After both players exchanged two breaks in the first set, Miyazaki edged the tiebreak to go one-set up. Bondar had a solid start to the second, taking a 5-1 lead before the Japanese pulled a break back, but the Hungarian held on to the single break advantage to close out the set and force the decider.
Miyazaki began the third set well taking a 0-3 lead following a break in the second game. She eventually led 2-5, before Bondar began her comeback effort. The Japanese had a match point on Bondar’s serve in the 10th game but the Hungarian saved it. Bondar eventually won the last five games of the match to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 7-5.
This was Bondar’s first main draw appearance since her first round defeat to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at the Australian Open. Since then the Hungarian had lost in the qualifiers in St. Petersburg, Dubai and Doha.
Her only other main draw success this year came in Melbourne Summer Series 1, when she defeated Katerina Siniakova in the opening round after coming through the qualifiers. She eventually lost in the second round to Anastasia Potapova.
The 24-year-old, who has had more success on clay at the lower level, won the WTA 125 in Buenos Aires last year.

Boulter Rebounds to Beat Konjuh
Qualifier Katie Boulter, playing her first tour-level main draw match of the season, bounced back from a set down to knock out no. 6 seed Ana Konjuh on Tuesday.
After losing a close first set, Boulter made a resounding comeback, bageling the Croatian in the second to force the decider. The Briton continued her dominance in the third, building a 4-0 lead before Konjuh got a break back, but it wasn’t enough for the World No. 46, as Boulter maintained the advantage to win 5-7, 6-0, 6-3.
Boulter, who recently won an ITF tournament in France, has qualified for the main draw in Lyon with straight sets wins over France’s Estelle Cascino and Germany’s Laura Siegemund.
The 25-year-old who plays well on hard surfaces is playing her first WTA tour event this year. She failed to make in to the main draw in Adelaide and the Australian Open.
Boulter will be looking to reach a first quarterfinal since her last eight exit from the Nottingham Open last year.
Bondar v Boulter Prediction and Tip
Having taken out the sixth seed, Boulter will be high on confidence. Expect her to advance to the quarterfinals.
