Petra Martic v Anna Bondar Head to Head
Petra Martic and Anna Bondar have no previous history. They will contest the first-ever duel on the WTA tour on Wednesday.

Martic Struggles For Consistency
Petra Martic’s early-season woes left her on the edge of a Top 100 exit. Martic’s abysmal run of results stems from a poor second half in 2021, in which she won five matches in six months.
Things took a turn for the worse earlier this year. The former World No. 14 suffered back-to-back first-round exits in Melbourne, including her opening match at the Australian Open against Jil Teichmann.
The 31-year-old has since rekindled the form that took her to a near Top-10 breakthrough in the past month, albeit in patches. Martic has improved marginally, as she secured her first win of the season in St. Petersburg, and scored one of her finest wins in Monterrey against the in-form American Madison Keys.
Keys was coming off a semifinal showing at the Australian Open, but was stunned at the sheer resilience and tactical nous that Martic displayed in their first-round meeting in Monterrey. The Croat rallied from a set down and saved a match point to win in three dramatic sets.
But Martic’s season is a meld of inconsistency. Will she shrug off those demons in her first-round match at the BNP Paribas Open?

Bondar Replaces Injured Collins
Anna Bondar has received a straight ticket into the main draw of this year’s Indian Wells tournament. Following a spate of withdrawals, the Hungarian World No. 75 will get a taste of tour-level competition in one of the most prestigious WTA tournaments outside the four Grand Slams.
Bondar has already cracked some personal milestones in the past 12 months, culminating with her first Grand Slam appearance at this year’s Australian Open. She closed out her 2021 season in sublime fashion, winning back-to-back titles including the WTA 125K series crown in Buenos Aires – her biggest title thus far.
She topped it all off by becoming Hungary’s top-ranked female player, surpassing her contemporaries Panna Udvardy and Dalma Galfi.
Bondar has seen a lot of main draw action at tour-level tournaments in recent weeks. She reached the quarterfinals at her most recent event in Lyon. And if she can improve on her 6-6 record at the start of this season, she will soon bid farewell to the ITF circuit.
Martic v Bondar Prediction and Tip
While an upset is not out of question, it is hard to side against the experienced Croat in this one. A win over Madison Keys could precipitate into a boom cycle for Martic.
