Fabio Fognini v Pablo Andujar Head to Head
Fognini has a 4-1 lead against he Spaniard on the tour and he is 6-1 overall having met twice in the Futures tournaments close to two decades ago.

Fognini Looked Good On South American Clay
Fabio Fognini didn’t quite get going in Australia, but a quarterfinal finish in Buenos Aires and a semifinal finish in Rio de Janeiro would have been a confidence booster for the 34-year-old.
But the Italian now needs to transition from clay to hard and that could be a challenging task. However, he begins his Indian Wells challenge against a player who has struggled outside of clay courts throughout his career and therefore it’s a great opportunity for Fognini to find his feet quickly on hard courts.
Although the Italian has been more successful on clay, he did win one of his nine titles on hard surface and four of his 10 runner-up finishes have also come on the same. But he hasn’t reached a final since 2019.
Fognini struggled, particularly on hard courts, during a 22-24 season last year, and Indian Wells may not be the best of places for him to turn around the fortunes as he has an 8-11 record in the tournament.
His best performance at Indian Wells so far was a Round of 16 finish in 2014. Last year, he had a first round by and won the second round match against Jan-Lennard Struff before falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Round of 16. Can he begin with a win again?

Andujar Is 4-0 In First Rounds This Year
After reaching the third round of the Australian Open for the first time in his career, Pablo Andujar will feel a bit more confident on hard courts, but over the years he has struggled big time on the surface. And a 4-6 record at Indian Wells don’t make things easier for the 36-year-old clay court specialist.
The last time the Spaniard won a match at Indian Wells it was in 2013, since then he has made three first-round exits, including in 2021 when he lost to Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic.
Andujar has won four titles from nine finals this year, but all of them have been on clay.
He has a 6-4 record in 2022 and will be proud of the fact that he has not lost in the first round of any of the four tournaments this year.
Apart from a third round appearance in the Australian Open, he was a quarterfinalist in Rio and won one and lost one in Buenos Aires and Acapulco. Can he keep his unbeaten first round record in 2022 intact on Thursday?
Fognini v Andujar Prediction and Tip
