Soonwoo Kwon v Laslo Djere Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, in Nur-Sultan last year, Kwon winning in three sets on his way to his maiden ATP title.

Kwon Searching for His 2021 Form

This is the second successive year that Kwon has made the first round draw in Indian Wells – he has never been further in any Masters event.

The South Korean number one achieved a major career breakthrough by winning his maiden ATP senior title in Nur-Sultan last year, but there has been little sign of that form so far in 2022, although he is at least consistent.

Seven tournaments played and seven second round exits to his name.

However, he may draw confidence from his performances for his country in the Davis Cup last weekend, winning his two singles matches to help South Korea defeat Austria, defeating Dennis Novak and Jurij Rodionov, both in straight sets.

Djere Hoping for Better Things

Djere’s record at Indian Wells is not noticeably better either – his third round appearance in 2019 was the only time that he has got beyond the first round, although that did equal his best ever performance at a Masters event.

The Serb is much better known as a clay court player, winning two tournaments and finishing runner-up in Sardinia last year.

His best performance of 2022 so far came right at the start of the year, when he reached the third round in Adelaide.

However, he has yet to win a match since then, suffering successive first round defeats at the Australian Open, in Buenos Aires, Rio, and, most recently, Acapulco.

He has not even won a set since competing in Argentina.

Kpwn v Djere Prediction and Tip

Neither man has a good record in this tournament or in Masters events generally, and both are not in the best of form, either. But Kwon’s performances in the Davis Cup can give him confidence that he can, at least, maintain his recent record of reaching the second round of tournaments.

Tip: Kwon to win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
