Ekaterina Alexandrova v Elvina Kalieva Head to Head

18-year-old Elvina Kalieva is starting in the Indian Wells Open as a wildcard. Currently ranked in the early 300s, the American hasn’t got a whole lot of WTA Tour experience; she made her Grand Slam debut in the US Open last season where she fell in the second qualifying round.
Interestingly, Kalieva played in the Girls’ Doubles at the Flushing Meadows and ended up reaching the final with Reese Brantmeier.
The youngster has spent the majority of her time on the ITF circuit building her form and gaining some experience. Her efforts have translated into a sole runner-up feat in Rancho Santa Fe. This season, Kalieva continued in the same vein and did well to reach the semifinal in Orlando and Vero Beach.
Of course, a Grand Slam is an entirely different ball game, let alone playing an opponent who is far more experienced and adapted to playing in high-profile events.

Alexandrova Hoping to Shake off the Rustiness
World No. 52 Ekaterina Alexandrova hasn’t had the best of the starts to the season. She has been struggling a fair deal, having lost in the first round in two of the four events played so far.
In the other two events – namely St. Petersburg Trophy and Sydney Classic, the Russian made it as far as round two but ended up losing to Maria Sakkari and Garbine Muguruza respectively.
A runner-up in the Kremlin Cup last season, Alexandrova has never been among the most consistent players on the tour. She has seen her fair share of losses to players ranked well below her. That said, she has also beaten a handful of top 10 players in her time so she is not to be taken lightly.
Alexandrova v Kalieva Prediction and Tip
Given Alexandrova’s shaky form, Kalieva has got a good opportunity here to cause some damage and post her best WTA results. However, Kalieva’s lack of experience also serves as a decent motive for the 27-year-old to gain some traction. For obvious reasons, Alexandrova will start as the odds-on favourite.
