Simona Halep v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
It’s 2-2 between the two. They shared the spoils in 2019 and also in 2021. Last year, Alexandrova beat Halep in the quarterfinals of the Gippsland Trophy, while Halep won in Stuttgart.

2015 Indian Wells champion Simona Halep will begin her 2022 campaign in the second round, after the 24th seed received a first round bye.
The World No. 26 has displayed good form this season. She has already picked up a title this year following a title-less 2021. The Romanian began the season by picking up her 23rd WTA title in Melbourne. She followed it up with a run to the fourth round of the Australian Open and then reached the semifinals in Dubai last month.
She was however knocked out in the first round in Doha by Caroline Garcia.
With an 11-3 record, the 30-year-old will be looking for a deep run in the tournament. She beat Jelena Jankovic for the title in 2015 and was a semifinalist on two other occasions. In her last appearance last year, Halep won her second round match but fell in the third.

Alexandrova Rallies Past Kalieva
Ekaterina Alexandrova eked out a tough win against the United States’ Elvina Kalieva in the first round.
After losing the first set, the World no. 52 dominated the second to force the third and then the two broke each other four times each in the third before Alexandrova dominated the tiebreak to score a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win in two hours and 24 minutes.
Both players had 11 break points in the match, with Alexandrova converting seven of them and saving five. With the win Alexandrova improved to 3-4 for the season.
She hadn’t had a great start to the year but having carved out a tough win on Wednesday she will be hoping to equal her best showing at Indian Wells, which was a third round appearance in her only other previous appearance in the tournament in 2019.
