Paoloa Badosa v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Martincova has won each time without dropping a set.

Their first meeting was on the hard courts of Acapulco on 2018, followed by a clay court final of a junior event the following year. Their last meeting saw Martincova beat Badosa on home soil in Ostrava in 2020.

Defending Champion Badosa Hoping to Start Well

Badosa is the defending champion in Indian Wells, having beaten Victoria Azarenka in the final last October for the biggest win of her career to date.

And she has already proved that was no fluke by beating Barbora Krejcikova – the top seed in California this time – to win her first event of 2022, the Sydney International.

Reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time subsequently continued her rich vein of form.

Since them results have been less impressive – she was beaten in the first round in Dubai, and the second in Doha.

Badosa had a first round bye.

Martincova Breezes into Second Round

Martincova only broke into the top 100 for the first time last year, but, since then, her progress up the rankings has been rapid, and she achieved her best ever showing at a  Grand Slam by reaching the third round of Wimbledon.

This year she qualified for the Australian Open for the first time and reached the second round before losing to the number 30 seed, Camila Giorgi.

The Czech woman then reached the quarter-final in St. Petersburg, and the third round in Doha, before losing to Ons Jabeur.

Drawn against Heather Watson of Great Britain, she sailed into the second round, dropping just three games to the world number 113.

Badosa v Martincova Prediction and Tip

Defending champion Badosa is a much better player these days than when she met Martincova in the past, but, because of her history against the Czech woman, she should be taking nothing for granted.

Tip: Badosa to win: 2/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
