Karen Khachanov v Jenson Brooksby Head to Head

Khachanov and Brooksby have never faced off in a competitive encounter before this.

Khachanov 11-6 This Year

While Khachanov hasn’t quite managed to regain the kind of form he had shown in the very first tournament he had played this season, he sure has had a solid start to the year.

The Russian was a finalist in that competition in Adelaide, but took another four tournaments before winning three matches in a row again. That came about in Dubai where Khachanov defeated Mackenzie McDonald, Emil Ruusuvuori and Marin Cilic to make it to the semifinal before he went down fighting in three sets to Roberto Bautista Agut.

More recently, Khachanov featured at the ATP Dubai where he sealed off a tough first round win against Alex de Minaur but Novak Djokovic had his number in the second.

Khachanov enters this year’s Indian Wells Masters having reached the fourth round of this very competition last year. With a challenging opening round opponent up against him and a difficult draw to follow, things could get a tight for him as he looks to emulate that showing.

Brooksby Prevents Third Successive Loss

While Brooksby’s form this season has been one to behold and has seen him shoot to a career-best ranking of 43rd in the world, the American did enter this tournament on the back of successive defeats.

First he had been beaten in the final of Dallas Open by Reilly Opelka before going down in three sets to Alexander Zverev – both fighting defeats however.

Up against Roberto Carballes Baena in the first round here, Brooksby proved to be far too good for his opponent as he cruised through to a 6-1, 6-4 victory. The two players were on court for an hour and 27 minutes.

The difference between the two players was with their serves with Brooksby winning 14 of his 16 second serve points as compared to eight of 21 for his opponent.

And he now has a chance to go one past his previous best showing at Indian Wells Masters having bowed out of the competition in the second round last year.

Khachanov v Brooksby Prediction and Tip

There’s not much to choose between these two players with bet365 offering 10/11 for their wins. Backing Brooksby to get past his opponent despite the difference in experience and ranking.
