Leylah Fernandez v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between these two players.

Fernandez Coming off Monterrey Title

Leylah Fernandez arrives in Indian Wells after successfully defending her Monterrey Open title, being crowned the champion in 2021 and 2022. It is clear that Fernandez is a huge fan of the Mexican hard courts.

On her way to the title, Fernandez defeated Schmiedlova, Zheng, Wang, Haddad Maia and finally seeing off Osorio Serrano in the final 6-7(5) 6-4 7-6(3) in a huge battle that exceeded the 3 hour mark.

The Canadian hasn’t celebrated too much prior to Monterrey, so is certainly arriving in Indian Wells in her best form of the season so far. Fernandez suffered early exits in all of her other tournaments this season with Monterrey marking the first occasion she was able to win back-to-back matches.

As this is the first meeting between these two, I think Fernandez can use the fact she is left-handed to her advantage and get off to an early lead in the first set whilst Anisimova adjusts.

A win for Fernandez will book her place in the next round against either Rogers or 10th seed and in-form Ostapenko.

Anisimova Wins Tie Break Tens Ahead of Indian Wells

Albeit an exhibition event, Amanda will be chuffed to lift the trophy at the Tie Break Tens event prior to Indian Wells winning 10-point tie-breaks against 3 players all ranked higher than her, successfully winning against Osaka, Badosa, and Sakkari.

This is perfect preparation for the main event and a good opportunity to adjust to the courts and court speed, so this win will fill the American with confidence.

This confidence was displayed in her opening round against Navarro comfortably seeing off her compatriot 6-2 6-2 to set up the tie with Fernandez. Throughout the entire match,

Anisimova lost just 6 points on serve, winning 23/26 points behind the first delivery and 9/12 behind the second, not facing a breakpoint the whole match. Conversely, Anisimova won 52% of return points and broke Navarro 4 times to ease her way into the second round.

A win for Anisimova could potentially set up an Ostapenko v Anisimova rematch from Doha just a few weeks ago where the American lost in 3-sets, therefore, will be very motivated to reach the 3rd round to herself an attempt and getting revenge over the Latvian, providing Ostapenko defeats Rogers.

Fernandez v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

This will likely be a close encounter with a 3-set battle written all over it, and despite being the unseeded and lower-ranked player in this match I think Anisimova is the marginal favourite to advance to the next round based upon her impressive form since the start of 2022.

Tip: Anisimova to win: 8/13 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
