Alex de Minaur v John Millman Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and de Minaur has won every time without dropping a set so far.

Their first match was in Zhuhai in 2019, followed by two encounters last year, in Rotterdam, and at the Queen’s Club Championship.

De Minaur Faces Off the Court Controversy

De Minaur’s run to the fourth round at Indian Wells last October was his best ever showing at a Masters’ tournament, and he carried that form into the New Year by reaching the fourth round of his home Grand Slam.

Since then, he reached the quarter finals in Rotterdam, but was beaten in the first round in Dubai.

He did, though, win both his singles matches playing for Australia in the Davis Cup last weekend against Hungary.

Off the court, de Minaur, who was given a first round bye, faced accusations that he used fake documentation to prove that he had been fully vaccinated against Covid, something he has always strenuously denied.

The fact that he is here in California suggests the American authorities accept his version of events.

Millman Matches Best Indian Wells Showing

Surprisingly, for a man who has been a pro since 2006, this is only the third time that Millman has featured in the main draw in Indian Wells, and he has now emulated his achievement in 2016 of reaching the second round.

Forced to enter the qualifying competition because of his ranking, he beat Brandon Holt of the USA easily, but then became involved in an epic struggle with Tennys Sandgren, which involved three tie breaks, before the Australian eventually prevailed.

He was handed a tough looking first round draw against the German world number 68, Jan-Lennard Struff, and, when the German went a break up in the first set, Millman had his work cut out.

However, having saved three set points on his own serve, he hit back next game to level the match, taking it into a tie break which he eventually won.

The opening exchanges of the second set saw both men save break points before Struff was broken once more. Millman gave him no further opportunities after that and went on to close out the match.

De Minaur v Millman Prediction and Tip

De Minaur will start the clear favourite against a man he has beaten in their three previous meetings without dropping a set.
