Gael Monfils v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

Monfils leads Krajinovic 3-0 in their head-to-head, but matches between them have been tight. There has been at least one tiebreak set in all three matches, so the Serbian could in effect spring a surprise.

Monfils Absent From France’s Davis Cup Team

Gael Monfils revealed on his social media platforms that his recent withdrawal from France’s Davis Cup team last weekend was due to a ‘health glitch’ as a result of taking a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

On the advice of his doctor, the Frenchman decided to get sufficient rest time after getting an adverse reaction to the vaccine and was forced to miss the entire Middle-Eastern swing.

Monfils began the season in fine form, winning an 11th career title in Adelaide before going on to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. However, since setting foot out of Australia, he has only played one tournament, in Montpellier, and suffered a shock Round-of-16 exit at the hands of Mikael Ymer.

He withdrew from his last three tournaments and there is a huge question mark regarding his fitness coming to Indian Wells.

Krajinovic Defeats Countryman Lajovic

In an all-Serbian affair, Filip Krajinovic won a topsy-turvy opening-round match against Dusan Lajovic. Krajinovic recovered from a second-set blip to win 7-5 4-6 6-1 in two hours and three minutes.

Krajinovic, whose ranking is on the mend, served six aces, won 71% first-serve points, and broke his opponent five times from seven opportunities. He stayed solid on his own delivery, saving four out of six break points.

The World No. 40 enjoys playing at the Indian Wells tennis garden. He reached the Round of 16 in 2019 as a qualifier, beating Daniil Medvedev in the third round before falling to Rafael Nadal.

Krajinovic has put together a 7-5 record for the season, with his best showing coming on the indoor hard courts of Montpellier. Can he turn the table around when he takes on a man he has never beaten in three previous meetings?

Monfils v Krajinovic Prediction and Tip

Gael Monfils is playing for the first time in more than a month. He was bedridden as a result of the aforementioned adverse reaction to the Covid-19 vaccine. He is playing a familiar opponent, but we reckon he might be short of match fitness. Taking Krajinovic for the upset.
