Kaia Kanepi v Harriet Dart Head to Head

Kanepi and Dart have not played each other on the WTA tour before this, but they contested the Cherbourg-en-Contentin ITF final in 2020, which the Estonian won in straight sets.

Kanepi Stuns Bencic To Keep Up Hot Start

Kaia Kanepi’s good form in 2022 is showing no signs of abating, with her latest giant-killing win coming in the second round of Indian Wells.

Kanepi was aiming to defeat Belinda Bencic for the first time, but also improve on her modest record at the California desert.

The Estonian has been playing this tournament since 2006, which is a remarkable case of longevity, but her record of just three third-round showings in 12 previous main draws, made her task on Friday slightly insurmountable.

Kanepi was matched by Bencic, pound for pound, for the first eight games as both players traded breaks. However, the 36-year-old went into overdrive in the tenth game as she outhit Bencic to snatch the first set.

In the second set, it was normal service once more from Kanepi who dominated Bencic in almost every department. With insurance of a double break, the Swiss woman could not sustain a potential comeback. Kanepi has now posted her seventh win of 2022, matching her record from last season at the same stage. Can she lock her place in the fourth round of Indian Wells for the first time?

Dart Ends Svitolina’s Interest At Indian Wells

On a day of upsets, British qualifier Harriet Dart had the last laugh of the day as she fought back from a set down to knock out the number 12 seed Elina Svitolina.

Svitolina is clearly hurting mentally, given what is happening in her homeland, but the Ukrainian could be forgiven for not maintaining her level over the course of three sets.

Dart was brilliant in her strategy from planning to execution as she scored her first Top 20 win of her career at the ninth attempt. In spite of losing the first set 6-2 against the higher-ranked Svitolina, the Briton found a little bit of consistency in her game to overwhelm Svitolina with her raw power. She fashioned an incredible 21 break points and converted eight of them – proving adequate to clinch the win.

The 25-year-old is playing in the main draw of Indian Wells for the first time and is eyeing an unlikely place in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament.

Kanepi v Dart Prediction and Tip

Dart sensed blood in her second-round match, but I doubt Svitolina was in the right frame of mind to play. This match should be on the Estonian’s racket. If she doesn’t overcomplicate things, I expect a routine win.

Tip: Kanepi to win AND under 18.5 games: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
