Norrie Begins Title Defence In Style
Cameron Norrie proved he is not a one-trick pony, and his title win six months ago was no fluke. Norrie returned to Indian Wells with plenty of optimism and opened his title defense in style.
The World No. 12 saw off Spain’s clay-court specialist Pedro Martinez in straight sets to book his place in the third round. He joined fellow Britons Andy Murray and Dan Evans, who had both navigated their second-round matches successfully.
In Norrie’s case, he had a nervous start to the match in which he dropped his opening service game. But recovered from that early break to win four games in a row in that first set. Eventually, a succession of errors from Martinez’s wand gifted Norrie the opening set.
In the second set, the defending champion began to relax a little bit, and played more freely. Martinez stood no chance of springing the upset as Norrie closed out victory in one and half hours. He is set to renew hostilities with Nikoloz Basilashvili in a repeat of last year’s final.

Basilasvali Advances As Fognini Withdraws
Nikoloz Bassilashvili did not even break a sweat to make the third round of Indian Wells. Having received a first-round bye, Basilashvili’s second-round opponent Fabio Fognini was forced to pull out due to illness.
Basilashvili started his 2022 season losing in six successive matches before he stopped the rot at the Qatar Open in Doha. However, his title defense fell in the final hurdle Roberto Bautista Agut garnered revenge from last year’s defeat.
The Georgian was back to his old habits again, losing routinely to Alexei Popyrin in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships, tallying his losses to eight.
2021 began on a terrible note for Basilashvili before he managed to turn things around. He won two titles and re-entered the Top 20. So, despite this alarming return of form, the Georgian still possesses the capacity to surprise.
Norrie v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip
The courts at Indian Wells heavily favor Cameron Norrie’s heavy topspin forehand. And he used that shot outmuscle the competition at last year’s tournament. Norrie’s flat two-handed backhand is just as efficient in finishing off points, and there is not a glaring weakness that Basilashvili might expose.
Tip: Norrie to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
