Van de Zandschulp Upsets Auger-Aliassime

Botic van de Zandschulp got his second top 10 win of his career on Sunday as he knocked out World No. 9 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in a three-hour-and-16-minute epic.

The draining contest saw both players exchange a break in the first set before it eventually needed a tiebreaker to separate the two, which Van de Zandschulp won to take a one-set lead.

The second set saw the Canadian race to a 3-5 lead, but he failed to close out the set, as Van de Zandschulp made his way back by winning the next three games. He had three match points on Auger-Aliassime’s serve at 5-6 but the ninth seed saved all three match points and then edged the tiebreak to force the third set.

The World No. 47 began the third with a break and then got another in the end to close the match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 victory.

With the win the 2021 U.S. Open quarterfinalist improved to 9-5 for the season. He had begun his second Masters 1000 campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 win over the United States’ Tennys Sandgren in the first round.

Kecmanovic Saves Two MPs to Edge Past Cilic

Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic showed nerves of steel as he made a couple of remarkable comebacks to beat Marin Cilic in the second round on Sunday.

In an edge-of-the-seat contest, Kecmanovic first overcame a one-set deficit by winning the second and taking the match the distance.

Then, in the final set tiebreak, the World No. 61 saw Cilic take a 6-4 lead with a minibreak advantage, but the Serb refused to die. He fought back and won the next four points to score a remarkable 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win in two hours and 53 minutes.

The victory followed another hard-fought win, as Kecmanovic had needed two hours and 14 minutes to beat Liam Broady 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round.

Following Sunday’s win, Kecmanovic is now 11-5 in 2022. He is coming off back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in Rio and Santiago and had also made a fourth round debut in the majors at the Australian Open this year.

Van de Zandschulp v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Both are coming off sensational wins against high-quality players in tense finishes. Both will be mentally and physically drained and both will be eager to keep the dream runs going. Expect another close contest with Van de Zandschulp edging past Kecmanovic.
